Miles has always written great articles that range from detailed game recaps to more intimate feature stories. His approach to sports journalism is extremely dedicated and the resulting stories clearly show that. I’ve always appreciated how he goes above and beyond at his job, getting all the details and doing so in a respectful, professional manner. When I was playing at West Linn, I can’t remember a game that I didn’t see Miles afterward. That speaks to his work ethic and love for local sports reporting. The subsequent pieces are well-written, accurate, comprehensive and fun to read. In summary, Miles is great at his job and his work always reflects that.

During my eight seasons as head coach at West Linn, Miles did an excellent job of covering our football program and our high school sports teams, as well as a couple other schools. I thought the time he dedicated to covering our program was admirable. Not only did Miles cover the games, write the post-game articles, he took game pictures and kept the game stats. I was always impressed with his ability to multi-task! I also enjoyed talking to, and doing interviews with Miles. He was always well prepared.

Miles is a real worker with many talents. He is an excellent writer who is very fair in his depiction of the athletes and coaches he writes about. I remember looking out from shortstop and seeing Miles with his notepad in his hand. You always knew when he was there. Miles Vance has been a staple in the Metro area for as long as I can remember. You always tried to play just a little bit better when he was around. Never intrusive and always professional, Miles was a positive pipeline to the community.
