The Lions reload for 2023 and chase another Class 6A state tournament berth.
Team: West Linn boys golf
Coach: Adam Edwards
Team Leaders: Freshman Cade McVicker, freshman Grady Kane and senior Harris Nichols, along with junior Logan Rusk, junior Kyle Tenison, junior Collin Davis, freshman Cade Lee and junior Jon McCoy.
“McVicker is a very energetic player who is extremely competitive and consistent,” said West Linn coach Adam Edwards, adding that Kane “is a methodical player who works extremely hard at his game. His short game and mental toughness make him a huge threat in the TRL.”
Edwards added that when Nichols — the team’s only returning varsity player from 2023 and a first-team all-leaguer from 2021 (and honorable mention pick from ‘22) — “gets on a roll, he is hard to beat on the course.” Nichols placed 16th at regionals and 53rd at state last spring.
League Race: Edwards said that he expects his team to battle both Lake Oswego and Tigard — they “have stacked teams and … are some of the best teams in the state,” Edwards said — for top honors in the 2023 season. The 2022 Lions took second at regionals, qualified for state and finished 14th there.
“The key to our success is playing with confidence and overcoming obstacles during a round,” he said. “We have a pretty young and talented team and they are hungry to compete. I am excited to watch them grow as a group and make an impact in the TRL.”
