Game on.
There’s no better way to describe what’s happening right here and right now at Miles Vance Sports Journal.
This site — on the web at milesvancesportsjournal.com — launched back on Wednesday, Aug. 24, of 2022 and is dedicated to covering the athletes, teams, coaches and stories at Lake Oswego, Lakeridge and West Linn high schools, as well as youth and community sports in Lake Oswego and West Linn.
The site is run by me — owner/operator Miles Vance — and begins the 2023 spring season by offering readers almost a month of free access.

At the start of the spring season, readers will get free access to all content posted on Miles Vance Sports Journal. That content will include: event stories on the baseball, softball, boys track, girls track, boys golf, girls golf, boys tennis, girls tennis, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse teams from Lake Oswego, Lakeridge and West Linn; season preview stories on every varsity team; feature stories; Play of the Day stories; Photo of the Day stories; opinion columns; photo slideshows; and much, much more.
Over the course of the 2023 spring season, Miles Vance Sports Journal will offer complete and balanced coverage of every varsity team from Lake Oswego, Lakeridge and West Linn, stories on every local team’s playoff/postseason events, and reporting on the local selections to every all-league and all-state team.
The school year will be capped by the return of the annual Athlete of the Year selections and stories, comprehensive year-long looks at the top graduated athlete (male or female) from each high school.
In addition to all the complete event stories filled with highlights, details and background, there will be quotes from local athletes — lots and lots and lots of them. And there will be photos of those same local athletes doing what they do best — lots and lots of them.
Behind all the stories, quotes and photos is me — Miles Vance. I’m a longtime high school sports reporter and photographer with 35 years of experience throughout Northwest Oregon, including the previous seven years as sports editor at the Lake Oswego Review and West Linn Tidings.
Along the way, I have been honored for my work in almost every possible way, including a lifetime achievement award by the Metro League, an award for service from Valley Catholic High School, being named Oregon District 4 Little League Volunteer of the Year (for my work leading up to and including the 2006 Little League World Series) and being named Oregon Wrestling Media Person of the Year.
In 2021 alone (the most recent year that awards have been handed out), I won three of six statewide sports writing awards available to my newspapers — more than any other sportswriter in the state. In photography, I won four of the six statewide awards available — more than any other sports photographer in the state.
After covering 11 high schools across Clackamas County over the past two years, I have turned my full attention back to the athletes, teams, coaches and communities of Lake Oswego, Lakeridge and West Linn.
I hope you’ll come along for the ride, first as a reader — for free at the start of the spring season — and after that as a subscriber.
