Jake Holmes made the Play of the Day in the Lions’ win over Jesuit.
It’s the moment that makes a difference.
It’s the key that separates victory from defeat, or leaves an indelible memory.
It’s the Play of the Day.
In this case, for Thursday, Sept. 15, the Play of the Day came from West Linn senior defensive end Jake Holmes during the Lions’ 31-20 win over Jesuit at Jesuit High School.
With West Linn leading Jesuit 24-13 — the Crusaders had cut the Lions’ 24-0 lead to 11 points with two TDs in just over three minutes — Jesuit drove to the West Linn 29-yard line early in the fourth quarter.
There, facing a fourth-and-seven situation, Jesuit quarterback Jacob Hutchinson dropped back to pass and attempted to throw into the left flat — but Holmes had other ideas. He reacted quickly, reached up and swatted Hutchinson’s pass to the turf to end the Crusaders’ last, best chance at victory.
