Lakeridge’s Mauricio Loyo made the Play of the Day in the Pacers’ win over Wells.
It’s the moment that makes a difference.
It’s the key that separates victory from defeat, or leaves an indelible memory.
It’s the Play of the Day.
In this case, for Thursday, Sept. 22, the Play of the Day came from Lakeridge’s Mauricio Loyo — a junior — during his team’s 1-0 win over Ida B. Wells at Wells High School.
With the Pacers tied with the Guardians 0-0 14 minutes into the second half, junior Spencer Lovell started the scoring play by making a long run up the right side of the field, angling toward the Wells goal, drawing the defense toward him, then dropping a pass to Loyo. Loyo was ready and hit a right-footed shot behind Wells senior Ethan Kievit and past Guardians’ senior keeper Matthias Junker to the right corner of the goal.
