Mairin Kelly made the Play of the Day in the Lakers’ win over Beaverton.
It’s the moment that makes a difference.
It’s the key that separates victory from defeat, or leaves an indelible memory.
It’s the Play of the Day.
In this case, for Wednesday, Sept. 14, the Play of the Day came from Lake Oswego junior defender/midfielder Mairin Kelly during the Lakers’ 1-0 win over Beaverton at Beaverton High School.
With the game still tied 0-0 and just 13 minutes, 45 seconds left to play, Beaverton was whistled for a foul, the Lakers were awarded a free kick and Kelly made the most of her chance.
Kelly set up for the attempt from 25 yards out on the left side of the field and sent a long, looping kick toward the Beaverton goal. Her shot soared over the hands of leaping Beaverton goalkeeper Lauren Wilde and into the top of the goal for the game-winning score.
