Here’s one of the memorable photos from the West Linn football team’s loss to Sheldon.
It’s an image etched in time.
It’s a moment captured at a fixed point and saved for the future.
It’s the Photo of the Day.
In this case, for Thursday, Sept. 8, the Photo of the Day came from the West Linn football team’s Wiley Donnerberg during the Lions’ 35-31 loss to Sheldon in Week 2 of the 2022 season at West Linn High School.
With West Linn trailing 35-31 and the Lions facing a fourth-and-16 from the Sheldon 46-yard line with 2 1/2 minutes left on the clock, Lions senior quarterback Sam Leavitt dropped back and launched a long throw toward the Sheldon end zone.
Both Donnerberg, a junior wide receiver, and sophomore Baron Naone went after the ball while being defended by Sheldon’s Cade Welch and Nikko Klemm. The ball got tipped near the goal line and Donnerberg, after turning back upfield, made a last-gasp chance at a spectacular game-winning catch before Leavitt’s throw fell to the turf incomplete.
