The three-day holiday tournament features 24 teams in three brackets.
It’s the holidays, right?
Christmas trees, glazed ham, presents, snow (maybe) and basketball.
Basketball?
You bet, high school basketball, including the 31st iteration of the Nike Interstate Shootout at Lake Oswego High School. The Shootout kicks off with 12 games on Saturday, Dec. 17, and continues with play in three brackets through Monday, Dec. 19.
“The NIS … is bigger and better than last year,” said Lake Oswego head coach Kate Jackson. “The tournament has grown from 16 to 24 teams, so we will have three brackets competing in 2022. We have teams from every 6A conference, half of the 5A conferences and two teams from the state of Washington.”
The Lakers, currently 2-2 overall in the young 2022-23 season, open play in the Navy Bracket when they host North Salem at 5:25 p.m. Saturday. This year’s tournament includes 24 teams divided into three eight-team brackets, with all games played at LOHS’ two gyms.
Joining the Lakers’ varsity team in the Navy bracket will be: Battle Ground, Washington; Roosevelt; Gresham; South Eugene; North Salem; Mountainside; and McKay.
The Red bracket will include: Liberty; R.A. Long, Washington; St. Mary’s Academy; McNary; Westview; South Albany; Lincoln; and North Medford.
And the White bracket will include: Reynolds; Canby; Century; Sandy; Aloha; West Albany; Southridge; and Sprague.
Over the course of its long life, the Shootout has hosted a bundle of nationally ranked teams and an incredible collection of top-notch players. Included in that group are: Sabrina lonescu, Jordan Reynolds, Taylor Enders, Bendu Yeaney, Cierra Walker, Kailee Johnson, Tyschal Blake, Emma Gibb, Katie McWilliams, Jaisa Nunn, Evina Westbrook, Shalexxus Aaron, Martina McCowan, Jordan Woodvine, Cameron Brink, and Karley and Kourtney Eaton.
