North team includes WL’s Gabel & Holmes, LR’s Hoffberg & Santana, and LO’s Maxwell.
The Richardson Oregon All-Star Series just announced the coaches for the two-game showcase set for June 24-25 at Oregon State’s Goss Stadium — and the North staff has a particularly Lake Oswego flavor to it.
The Richardson Oregon All-Star Series, which features the top graduated Class 6A and 5A senior baseball players from across the state, will see the North team led by Colin Griffin of Jesuit and Jake Anders of Lake Oswego.
Griffin will be making his third Series appearance, following appearances in 2016 and 2019. A Jesuit graduate who played baseball at Clackamas Community College and at Willamette University, Griffin led the Crusaders to Class 6A state championships in both 2016 and 2019.
His Crusaders captured the 2023 Metro League title with a 16-2 mark, then went toe-to-toe with repeat champion West Linn in the championship before dropping a hard-fought 2-0 game on Saturday, June 3. Five of Griffin’s players are represented on the North roster..
He coached at Lakeridge for seven seasons before returning to Jesuit in 2014. The Pacers advanced to the playoffs in each of Griffin’s final four seasons there.
Anders, the longtime Oregon All-Star Series coordinator, will team up with Griffin to coach the North. Anders has been the head coach for the Lakers for the past 25 years. This will be his fourth time coaching in the series, his first coming after Lake Oswego’s state championship season in 2004.
Anders led the Lakers to a third-place finish in the ultra-competitive Three Rivers League in 2023, then took his team to an appearance in the 6A semifinals. Lake Oswego finished the season 24-7 overall and played West Linn tough in the semis, losing 6-4 to the eventual state champions.
The South will be managed by skippers Dennis Minium of Thurston and Marty Johnston of West Albany. Thurston edged West Albany 2-1 in a thrilling 5A state title game at PK Park on June 3.
Minium, in his eighth season with the Colts, led Thurston to an undefeated season in the Midwestern League and a state championship. The Colts went 28-3 overall and led all of 5A in most runs scored (250) and fewest runs allowed (66). Minium has guided his alma mater to five consecutive league titles.
This is Minium’s second appearance as a coach at the Oregon All-Star Series, his first back in 2019.
Johnston will be making his series debut for the South. In his second season as the skipper at West Albany, he led the Bulldogs to a Mid-Willamette Conference title and 5A state championship game appearance.
The Richardson Oregon All-Star is scheduled for Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25 at OSU’s Goss Stadium with Saturday’s first pitch scheduled for 3 pm and Sunday’s at 11 am. Both games are 9-inning contests.
Class 6A state championship-winning pitcher Drake Gabel of West Linn, a left-handed Seattle commit, and future Gonzaga right-hander Erik Hoffberg of Lakeridge, are two of the aces that will represent the Three Rivers League for the North team. Gabel tossed a complete game shutout in the 6A title game against Jesuit.
Joining them on the North roster are three other area selections, including West Linn first baseman Jake Holmes, Lake Oswego shortstop Grant Maxwell and Lakeridge shortstop Dawson Santana.
