The Lakers believe they have what it takes to compete with the TRL’s best in 2023.
Team: Lake Oswego boys tennis
Coach: Alex Hart
Team Leaders: Senior team captain Cooper Whittington, senior team captain Owen Schmidt, senior team captain Gavin Hsia, senior Wyatt Sturn, sophomore Robert Evenson, junior Mason Men, freshman James Cui.
Singles: Whittington, after taking second in doubles at the Class 6A state championship last year with graduated partner Alec Beecham, aims to have the same success in singles this season, while senior Wyatt Sturn and sophomore Robert Evenson will compete for the second singles spot.
“What makes Cooper so good is that he embraces challenges and tough competition,” said LO coach Alex Hart. “He plays with ice in his veins and believes he can compete with anyone.”
Doubles: Schmidt will play No. 1 doubles team with Men, while Hsia will play second doubles with Cui.
League Race: Hart expects a couple huge battles against Lakeridge in league play this year, but says that West Linn ought to be considered the 2023 favorite.
“West Linn is going to be a massive challenge for anyone to beat,” Hart added. “West Linn is a legitimate contender for the … state title this season.”
