With the Three Rivers League wrestling season about to resume, it’s an apt time to look at what the teams from West Linn, Lake Oswego and Lakeridge have accomplished so far.
Next up, the Lions wrestle in the Doc B. Tournament in Clovis, California, on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 6-7. The Pacers wrestle in the MHS Your Space Storage Invite at McMinnville High School on Saturday, Jan. 7. And the Lakers return to TRL action when they host Tualatin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11.
West Linn
The Lions have wrestled five times so far in 2022-23 and have absolutely impressed along the way.
Tyrone S. Woods Invitational, Oregon City High School, Dec. 3: At 106 pounds, Romeo Daly finished first with a 6-2 win over Kenneth Kiepke of Barlow in the finale, while Oscar Doces took second at 113 and Ryan Muzii third at 113.
Rose City Championship, Westview High School, Dec. 9-10: The Lions finished 10th overall, with Earl Ingle taking the title at 220 with an 8-0 major decision over over Eli Nava of Dallas. Other highlights were: Charles Spinning placed second at 145, dropping a 4-2 decision to Newberg’s Gus Amerson in overtime, while Joshua Abarca placed third at 138.
West Linn 57, Tualatin 21 — Tualatin High School, Dec. 14: West Linn won 10 of 14 weight classes and rolled to a comfortable 57-21 victory over the Timberwolves. Winners by fall included: Colby Cook at 120, Nate Gusdorf at 126, Oscar Doces at 132, Joshua Abarca at 138, Henry Dillingham at 145, Justin Rademacher at 182, Benjamin Winjum at 195, Earl Ingle at 220 and Liam Armstrong at 285.
Reno Tournament of Champions, Dec. 16-17: Lions’ highlights from Reno included Justin Rademacher’s third-place finish at 175, Charles Spinning advancing to the third round at 144, and Logan Owens reaching the third round at 150.
Northwest Duals, Linn County Fairgrounds, Dec. 28-29: The Lions won seven of eight duals at Albany, their only loss a 49-21 setback against Newberg. West Linn winners against the Tigers were: Ryan Muzii at 113, Joshua Abarca at 138, Charles Spinning at 145, Justin Rademacher at 182 and Earl Ingle at 220.
Lakeridge
Tyrone S. Woods Invitational, Oregon City High School, Dec. 3: Highlights from the Pacers’ efforts at OC were Josh Kornachuk’s ninth-place finish at 120, and 15th-place finishes by both Korbin Taft at 138 and Kyle McFarland at 182.
Larry Owings Invitational, Canby High School Dec. 17: Lakeridge took eighth at Canby, with both Josh Kornachuk and Jacob Turner placing third, Kornachuk at 120 and Turner at 138.
Pac Coast Wrestling Championships, Hudson’s Bay High School, Dec. 29-30: Highlights from Lakeridge included: Niles Bauer won three of four matches at 220, while Michael Heredos (160), Caystin Harral (182) and Joey Massari (285) all reached the third round of consolation.
Pac Coast 2nd Chance, Hudson’s Bay High School, Dec. 29-30: The Pacers saw four wrestlers battle to third place, including Nolan Opferman at 138, Michael Heredos at 160, Caystin Harral at 182 and Joey Massari at 285.
Lake Oswego
Tigard 69, Lake Oswego 12 — Dec. 14, Lake Oswego High School: While the Lakers fell short in their TRL opener, they did get a win by fall from Jacob Alar at 182.
Larry Owings Invitational, Canby High School Dec. 17: Lake Oswego finished just 11th as a team, but saw Dylan Keyser wrestle to third at 106, while Jagar Shean grabbed fifth at 285.
