Lakeridge boys polo will be strong again
The Pacers have appeared in the past four state championship games.
The Lakeridge boys water polo team has grown into one of the state’s best in recent years.
Indeed, the Pacers have appeared in the last four straight state championship games, winning the Oregon High School Water Polo championship in 2019 and finishing second to crosstown rival Lake Oswego a year ago.
While the Three Rivers League remains as tough as ever — Lake Oswego went unbeaten a year ago and the TRL also includes perennial power Newberg — the Pacers believe they have the ability compete with those other top teams.

The dance teams and cheerleaders at those three schools have been showing off their skills in the first weeks of the 2022 high school fall sports season, too. So here’s a collection of the best images from those teams’ early-season efforts.

The Lions outgain the Irish by more than 200 yards but make too many mistakes to win.
It ain’t always about stats.
Just ask the West Linn football team.
The Lions, in their Week 2 non-league contest against powerful Sheldon, racked up more rushing yards than the Irish.
They recorded more passing yards — a lot more — and more first downs.
And they had more big plays, too, with Sheldon recording three plays of 20 yards or longer while West Linn notched eight.
But none of that mattered. The Irish took advantage of their chances far better than the Lions, made fewer mistakes, committed fewer turnovers and edged away to win 35-31 at West Linn High School on Thursday, Sept. 8.
